ALEXANDER CARTER, son of  THOMAS and NANCY NEWTON CARTER, was born in North Carolina on January 20, 1786. He moved with his family to Chester County, South Carolina where he married Mary Ledsinger on Nov. 18, 1817. Mary was the daughter of RUTHA LEDSINGER CARTER, the second wife of his father. She was born Sept. 11, 1799.

Sometime between 1825 and 1830, Alexander and Mary emigrated to Carroll County, Tennessee where they spent the remainder years of their lives. They had five little children when they came to Tennessee all of whom where born in South Carolina. After moving to Tennessee they had four more children.

Several of Alexander and Mary's children moved to Arkansas when they were youngand remained there. We have not been able to complete a history of Alexander's family for this reason.

Alexander and Mary Carter had nine children in all. Only one of these is knownto have lived in Carroll County, Tennessee for the remainder of his life after leaving South Carolina. He was Thamas Alexander Carter married to Martha E. WILLIAMSON.
