Will write a little sketch of him as he was so closely connected with the Carter family. He married Nancy Harpley, and they raised four sons and seven daughters. The sons were John, Mike, Thomas and James. He died in the Federal Army in time of the Civil War. His youngest son Louis, died near Huntingdon a few years ago. His daughters were Ruth Jackson Collins, Margaret P. Hall, Mary William Jackson, Sallie Nelson Collins. These are still living, but they are very old. Louis I don't know much about the man she married, he never lived about here and she died. Carolina John Allman and Izabella Sanders of Huntingdon. This is Thomas and Rutha Ledsinger's family.
As far as I can tell there were two of Thomas Carter's brothers came to Tennessee. John and Ruben Carter. John had two sons and three daughters. William Kidd Carter. He was named for a man that was some connection of the Carter's. I don't know what kin he was, but his name was William Kid. He got his hair shot off by the Tories in the Revolutionary War. He died in Mississippi since I can remember. William Kid Carter had two sons in Dyer County, James Ford Carter and Johnathan David Carter (always called Tobie).
John Carter's other son was Jonathan. He had two sons in North Arkansas, the last account. Their names were Filmore and Ethelbert. and they had a sister in Dexter, Arkansas. John Carter had three girls. Nican married John Kee, Tabitha Dunning and Elizabeth Arch Montgomery. This is all I know about them.
Ruben Carter had one son and four daughters. His sons name was Ruben Ellis. He married Susan Herron, they raised seven sons. Calvin died when he was about 35. Ruben Major died in Huntingdon some years ago. Emmaline Carter of Huntingdon his widow. John W. Carter of McLemoresville and James H. Carter near Griggs Chapel and Bishop Thomas C. Carter of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Dr. Joseph M. Carter of Arkansas and Jesse Carter who died in Huntingdon some years ago.
